Exterior Columns were replaced with columns finished in a sandstone type matrix that matches the original plaster and sand finish on the building.

Court House

Lera Glass built the columns for the Carolands when it was remodeled. The originals were damaged during the years the building was vacant. We took molds from the undamaged areas on the original columns using a machine that sprays rubber mold material, and then sprays a hard shell. We took the molds back to the shop, and used the molds to help produce the columns shown here. The final finish is a composite sandstone using sand color matched to the original finish.

Why Fiberglass? Fiberglass, while being very cost effective, also makes this renovation seismically sensible. Fiberglass is far lighter than traditional stone, and because of its light weight, it’s easier to install than traditional stone.
